Yep it seems a very nice tool. My single complaint about it is that Desktop search is not able to index also mbox type mail.

If it supported my platform, I would surely check out Google Desktop Search. As it doesn’t I’ll wait for Spotlight….

Google already searches my mail for me, what I’m after is some kind of plugin API so I can teach it to index custom application types.
Sort of like a google powered Beagle / Dashboard.

Great speed but why did they choose a web interface? It could have been done so much better as a rich client tightly integrated with the desktop.

Fundamentally the way I search my computer is so different than the way I search the Internet I don’t see how one model can work for both. When I’m on google.com I’m normally trying to search for information. When I’m on my computer I’m trying to locate information. Maybe I just don’t have enough stuff on my computer that I don’t see the usefulness of Google Desktop.

I wish I could get it to work. After I install it both IE and FireFox cease functioning so then I cannot get to the preferences page since it is web based. A simple de install and things are fine.
